A Seat at the Table: Experiences from Women of Color

Ever imagine the experiences of women, especially women of color in the metals industry?

Rose Davis, Lead Account Manager for Cleveland-Cliffs INC. and Sarah Moran, Climate Vertical Market Manager for Ryerson will share their dynamic experiences over the last 25- 30 years.

Hear directly from these two individuals who pushed forward to have accomplished careers, all the while supporting others along the way. Rose and Sarah will share lessons learned and how they continue to be trailblazers, committed to leaving the metals industry more diverse, equitable, and inclusive industry than the one they joined decades ago.

 

Rose Davis began her career in the steel industry in 1989, as a Customer Service Representative, with Inland Steel.  In 1996, Rose was promoted Marketing Rep for Inland Steel where she worked on developing strategies for the distribution segment. Rose was promoted to Outside Sales Rep for Non-Prime Products in 1998 were she sold Non-Prime and Secondary Products. Rose continued to enhance her sales career as the company saw name changes and acquisitions. Currently Rose holds the title of Lead Account Manager for Cleveland-Cliffs INC. In her current role, Rose sells Light Flat Rolled (LFR) and Plate products, servicing various market segments.

Rose does not only participate on the sales team but shows her commitment to uplifting minority groups within the metals industry. Rose has been an active member of AWMI (Association of Women in the Metals Industry) since 2000.  Rose also serves as a volunteer leader of the MSCI DEI Committee, where she collaborates with others to create opportunities for positive change in the DEI segment.

Rose is an Alumna of Loyola University, graduating in 1989. Rose’s pride and joy, Alexandria, is attending the University of Missouri, where she is entering her junior year.  Rose is a die-hard Chicago Bears fan and now an avid Mizzou Tiger fan.  In her spare time, Rose loves to travel, bike ride, and spend time with her family and friends.

Sarah Moran began her career in the steel industry in 1996 as an Inside Sales Representative with US Steel.  She was promoted to Outside Sales in 2002.  Sarah continued her steel sales career, served as Product Manager for Plate Products, and went on to become Sales Development Manager responsible for 14 sales trainees directing a yearlong outside sales training program.  She also held positions as Product Manager – Cold Roll and Product Manager – Hot Roll.  Sarah’s career is a testament to longevity and survival in our tumultuous industry. In February 2019, she joined Central Steel & Wire, part of the Ryerson family of companies as Director of Procurement – Flat Carbon.  On March 31, 2022, she was promoted to the Climate Vertical Market Manager with Ryerson. Sarah is proud to be one of the Co-Chairs for Ryerson’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Currently, Sarah is on the Board of Directors for the MSCI Central States Chapter and holds the Secretary position.

In addition, Sarah has been involved with AWMI (Association of Women in the Metals Industry) since 1997.  She served on the Chicago Chapter Board as Programs Chair, Marketing Chair and eventually became President in 2001-2002.   She continues her 25 years of membership and support of the Chicago Chapter and all of AWMI.

Sarah is a graduate of Purdue University.  Her only daughter, Cassie is a junior at Purdue and is proud to be a Boilermaker fan.  In her spare time, Sarah loves to travel, throw dinner parties, and enjoy life.
